Get shopping advice from experts friends and the community. 2 answers we installed a water heater and we attached the nipples using sealing tape. The inlet and outlet have 3 4 threaded tubes with small blue plastic fittings at the top. In the water heater model 153 331572 there are plastic inserts in the cold water inlet and the hot water outlet.

Now it s mangled inside the tubing. The nipples leak where attached to the heater. Aquanta is made up of two parts a pair of hot and cold temperature sensors that attach to the t p valve and cold water pipe respectively and a small blue control unit which stands on top of the heater. The water heater that we are taking out it the same kind of heater and it didnt have those plastic blue things in it so that is why we didnt know for sure.

The threads are clean and even on the nipples and feel the same on the inside of the water heater. I m installing a maytag water heater. I thought these were caps and started to pry out the one on the cold side. Should they or can they be removed be removed.

Not the flex lines. The information tag is removed the heater is exchanged for a new one then the old goes into the trash bin. What are they for. No one checks to see why it went bad or even it has actually failed.

The blue thing in the cold water side of the heater is called a dip tube it is there to carry the cold water entering the heater to the bottom of the heater and not mix at the top of the heater. I m hoping it s there just to provide a good seal at the top but i m concerned that water could get between the plastic fitting and the pipe. My assumption is that they come out because they would create a pressure drop through the water heater however the design is so detailed being made up of sleeves orings flapper valves etc that it does not look like an ordinary cleanliness plug.

We are not sure if they are plugs we cant see down the tubes. There is no information in the installation manual.
